A Legacy of Excellence and Growth

Sugar Grove Academy Middle School (SGA) has a proud history rooted in service, transformation, and academic excellence. The campus first opened its doors in 1994 as Sugar Grove Elementary, serving as an overflow school to accommodate growing enrollment in the area. At the time, the campus did not have its own attendance zone but welcomed students from neighboring elementary schools. The school’s name, Sugar Grove, pays homage to the church that once stood on the same grounds, reinforcing the site’s legacy as a cornerstone of the community.

Under the leadership of founding principal Mr. Bob Taylor, Sugar Grove quickly established a reputation for academic success. The school was honored with an "Exemplary" rating by the Texas Education Agency in 2006, 2008, and 2009, and was the proud recipient of the prestigious Texas Governor’s Grant Award for three consecutive years—recognitions that highlighted the school’s commitment to academic achievement and student support.

In 2008, the campus began a significant transformation. Renovations commenced to repurpose the facility into a middle school, aligning with the district’s vision to expand educational opportunities for students in grades 6–8. By the 2010 school year, Sugar Grove officially operated as a middle school and closed the academic year with an accountability rating of "Recognized" by the state.

By 2012, Sugar Grove Academy was fully established as a dedicated middle school campus, proudly serving students in grades 6 through 8.

Today, Sugar Grove Academy continues to embody a culture of excellence, equity, and opportunity. As we honor our past, we remain focused on the future—committed to providing high-quality instruction, cultivating student leadership, and preparing every scholar for lifelong success.
